Does Federal withholding change throughout the year?
If you infrequently receive supplemental wages, such as a year-end bonus or one-time award, your salary throughout the year may remain consistent until the one paycheck that includes the increased wages. In that scenario, your federal withholding may not vary widely among your regular paychecks throughout the year.
What does it mean reduce your withholding?
A withholding allowance is an exemption that reduces how much income tax an employer deducts from an employee’s paycheck. The more tax allowances you claim, the less income tax will be withheld from a paycheck, and vice versa.
Is the amount of Federal withholding going down?
So, I guess as a result of the new tax law, the amount of federal withholding went down (for me, at least). But it dropped by $112, which is fairly significant. While it’s nice to have that extra amount in my paycheck, I’m wondering how this might affect my refund next year.

So, if you do not file a new Form W-4 for 2020, your withholding might be higher or lower than you intend.
